Helwig Scores Twice as Duke Dumps VCU
October 18, 1998 DURHAM, N.C. - Junior Caroline Helwig (San Francisco, Calif.) scored two goals to pace the ninth-ranked Duke field hockey team to a 3-0 shutout of Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday. Duke improves to 8-6 on the season, while VCU falls to 7-9. Helwig scored at 28:48 of the first half to open the scoring and then followed with another goal less than a minute later when she scored off of an assist by senior Emily Ford (Harwich, Mass.). Freshman Angie North (Houston, Texas) scored the first goal of her Dukr career, when she found the goal at 31:22 of the second half. Goalkeeper Jenn Robb (McLean, Va.) made seven saves to earn her third shutout of the season.
