Tar Heels Bounce Back With Win Over Yale

NEWTON, Mass. -- After giving up a goal less than two minutes into Sunday's game, the North Carolina field hockey team stormed back with three second-half scores to beat Yale 3-1. Fourth-ranked UNC improved to 10-3 on the season while Yale fell to 2-8. The game was played at Boston College's Newton Campus Turf Field, where the Tar Heels lost 2-0 to BC Friday in a conference contest.

The Bulldogs' goal came just 1:36 into the game, when Ashley McCauley scored on an assist Alyssa Jethani . The Tar Heels played the rest of the half down 1-0, but answered seven minutes into the second period. At the 43:23 mark, sophomore Kiki Norbruis scored on a penalty corner to tie the game. Just over five minutes later, senior Britt van Beek notched the gamewinner, her fourth of the season. The goal came on a pass from sophomore Katelyn Falgowski.

On the day, Carolina had 33 shots to four by Yale and 11 penalty corners to the Bulldogs' five. Goalkeeper Brianna O'Donnell made three saves for the Tar Heels, while Yale's Katie Bolling collected 15.

Wake Forest Downs Northwestern 8-2

Terps Field Hockey Dominates Second Half, Claims 5-1 Win Over Penn

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With the first half drawing to a close, the top-ranked Maryland Terrapins could not seem to gain an advantage on the pesky Penn Quakers despite dominating the time of possession. Then, as the half drew to a close, Ameliet Rischen took a centering pass from Meghan Dean and ripped a shot into the back of the goal with just a second left on the clock. The Terps never looked back, claiming a 5-1 victory on Sunday at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park.

The Terps (11-2, 3-1 ACC) pushed the Quakers (2-9, 1-2 Ivy) across the field all day, outshooting the Quakers 21-2. Penn had only one real scoring opportunity, converting on one of two shots about midway through the first half. The ball rarely entered the Penn attacking zone after that, as Maryland's stifling defense gave goalie Alicia Grater (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) a virtual day off in net.

After never holding a lead in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to No. 9 Duke, Maryland wasted little time in changing that on Sunday. Just over five minutes into the contest, senior Emma Thomas (High Wycombe, England/Wycombe) scored off a penalty corner for the first of two goals she would score on the day. The tally was assisted by senior Susie Rowe (London, England/Colfe's School).

BC's game was the second of a double-header which featured the University of North Caroline defeating Yale University in the 12 p.m. game 3-1. Between the two games the Eagles raised over $1,300 for the National MS Society.

Despite having a 7-to-1 advantage on penalty corners BC was unable to capitalize on any if its chances and the two teams entered the halftime scoreless.
