Blue Devils Upset No. 1 Maryland On The Road

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – A goal by senior Marian Dickinson off a penalty corner 10 minutes into the second half sent the No. 9 Duke field hockey team to a 3-2 road win over the No. 1 Maryland Terrapins at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex Saturday afternoon. The win was Duke’s fifth of the season over a ranked opponent.

Dickinson’s score, her fifth of the year, broke the 2-2 tie that was carried into halftime after an action-packed first half. Dickinson took a penalty corner for the Blue Devils, then fired in the rebound off Lauren Miller’s initial shot, while the teams then played scoreless for the remaining 25 minutes and Duke held on for the upset.

Deacons Score Late to Top Michigan State 2-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - After a scoreless first half, the No. 3 Wake Forest field hockey team scored back-to-back goals to top No. 6 Michigan State 2-1 on Saturday at Northwestern University.

The Demon Deacons (11-2) snapped a nine-match win-streak for the Spartans, who are now 12-2 for the year.

No. 10 Cavaliers Drop 3-2 Decision to No. 5 Iowa

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 10th-ranked Virginia field hockey team (10-4) dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 5 Iowa (11-3) Saturday in University Park, Pa. Third-year Traci Ragukas and first-year Floor Vogels recorded goals for the Cavaliers. The game was the first loss in regulation this season for UVa.

First-year Michelle Vittese returned to the Virginia lineup after missing the previous eight games because of injury, but the Cavalers played without starting forward Lauren Elstein, who is currently sidelined because of an injury suffered earlier this week in practice.
