Wake Forest Upsets #13 Duke, 3-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior Amanda Janney scored two goals to lead Wake Forest to a 3-0 shutout of 13th-ranked Duke in college field hockey action on Tuesday night at Kentner Stadium.

With the victory, Wake Forest improves to 7-6 overall and evens their ACC record at 1-1 this season. Duke falls to 5-5 and 0-2 in the ACC.

The Demon Deacons jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:50 into the game when sophomore Jenny Everett scored on a penalty stroke. Janney made the score 2-0 with 18:07 left in the first period when she scored off an assist from Everett.

Wake Forest pushed the lead to 3-0 when Janney scored her second goal of the night off a pass from freshman Ninke van Rueten with 29:06 left in the second half.

Wake Forest goalkeeper Meghan Nitka made eight saves to pick up the shutout. The Demon Deacons outshot the Blue Devils 19-11 in the game.

Wake Forest will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 when the Demon Deacons host Colgate at 1 p.m. in Kentner Stadium.
