North Carolina 2, Boston College 0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - With goals from a pair of seniors and another outstanding defensive performance, the top-ranked North Carolina field hockey team beat No. 10 Boston College 2-0 Saturday morning at Francis E. Henry Stadium to improve to 13-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The shutout was the eighth in a row for the Tar Heels, who last gave up a goal against Villanova on Sept. 8. Boston College fell to 8-4 overall and 1-3 in the ACC.

UNC got off 28 shots and drew 17 penalty corners in the game, but Boston College goalkeeper Julia Berkowitz made 17 saves to keep her team close. The two-goal output was UNC's lowest since a 2-1 win over James Madison on Sept. 2, nine games ago. The Tar Heels are averaging more than five goals per game for the season.

Maryland 4, Duke 2

DURHAM, N.C. - After a 1-1 tie at the end of the first half, second-ranked Maryland field hockey scored three second-half goals to get past #12 Duke, 4-2, in Durham on Saturday afternoon, improving to a school-record 13-0. Freshman Katie O'Donnell paced the Terrapin attack, scoring a goal while dishing out a pair of assists. The team returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 7, hosting No. 14 Boston University at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Prior to the start of the game, Terps head coach Missy Meharg will be honored for her 20 years on the sidelines.

Maryland trailed for the first time all year after Amie Survilla put the Blue Devils (7-6) ahead, 1-0, in the sixth minute of the game. Duke held onto that lead until late in the half. Maryland tied the score in the 32nd minute on a 2-on-1 breakaway as Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) passed off to sophomore Nicole Muracco (Sewell, N.J.) in the circle for Maryland's first goal of the game.

Virginia 2, Rutgers 1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Cavaliers connected on a pair of short corners in the second half and held the Scarlet Knights to just one goal as Virginia defeated Rutgers 2-1 today in Louisville. After a scoreless first half, No. 15/19 Virginia (7-5) scored on a short corner with 20 minutes to play to take a 1-0 lead. The Scarlet Knights (7-7) tied the game on a scramble with three minutes to play, but Virginia answered with a second goal off a short corner a minute later to get the lead and the win. Inge Kaars Sijpesteijn scored both goals on direct strikes off of injections by Lauren Elstein and stops by Abby Taylor.

Amy Desjadon's five saves in the first half stymied the Rutgers attack, which had eight shots and one corner in the opening frame. At the other end of the field, the Cavaliers generated one corner and four shots, all of which were saved by Rutgers' Leslie Kelly.
