BC Field Hockey Tops Appalachian State 11-0

Durham, N.C. - The Boston College Field Hockey Team closed out their trip to North Carolina this weekend with an 11-0 win over Appalachian State.

Seven different players scored for BC including a hat trick by senior forward Bob Dirks and 2 goal efforts by senior midfielder Michelle Tavener and junior forward Chelsey Feole.

The Eagles started the scoring early, with senior forward Kathleen Murphy netting her first goal of the season less than a minute into the first period. Murphy followed that up with an assist at 5:08 in the first on Feole's first goal of the game. Dirks then took over recording all three of her tallies on the day in a five minute span starting at 9:55 in the first period. Feole and sophomore defender Emily Kozniuk were credited with assists.

Blue Devils Complete Weekend Sweep With 2-0 Win Over BU

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 9 Duke field hockey team picked up the weekend sweep over opponents from the Boston area, defeating Boston University by a score of 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Williams Field to move to 8-3 (1-2 ACC) on the season. The Blue Devils also knocked off No. 13 Boston College, 5-0, yesterday for the team’s first conference win of 2008.

The Blue Devils did not allow a goal over the weekend, outshooting the opposition by a tally of 45-13 in the two games, collecting a pair of shutouts. Three different Blue Devils scored two goals in the wins.

Duke was propelled by the offense of junior forward Amie Survilla, who netted both goals on a pair of assists from senior Laura Suchoski. Survilla’s first goal game 7:50 into the contest as she took the pass from Suchoski square in front of the cage and drilled it into the bottom left corner to put Duke up 1-0 early.

No. 3 Deacons Turn Back Spiders 6-3

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 3 Wake Forest Demon Deacons defeated the Richmond Spiders 6-3 at Kentner Stadium Sunday afternoon.

It was a season-high outing in scoring for Wake Forest, who now stands at 10-2 for the year. The Deacons last netted six or more goals in September of 2007, when they took a 6-1 win over Radford. The Spiders are 3-8 for 2008 play.

Senior Michelle Kasold wasted no time and scored just over 80 seconds into the contest on the first shot of the match. Hilary Moore picked up an assist on the play.

Statistically speaking, Wake Forest dominated the first half, out-shooting the Spiders 14-2 and picking up six penalty corners while Radford had none. But the Spiders were able to capitalize on the few times they had possession of the ball, scoring two goals on just two shots during the opening 35 minutes. Adrian Pickar and Dani Pycroft had goals for Richmond in the first half.
