Sept. 23, 2007 DURHAM, N.C. - Thirteenth-ranked Duke posted a 4-1 win over Richmond on Sunday afternoon at Wiliams Field, as the Blue Devils improved to 5-5 on the season and Richmond fell to 1-8. Junior Marian Dickinson opened up the scoring for Duke, as she netted her second goal of the season at the 12:35 mark to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead.
Just over seven minutes later, the Blue Devils set up for a penalty corner and freshman Susan Ferger found the net on a pass from sophomore Lauren Miller to increase Duke's advantage to 2-0. The goal was Ferger's third for the year.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia field hockey team outcornered the Boston University Terriers 8-4, but the scoreboard read 3-0 in favor of the visitors. The No. 19/17 Terriers (8-2) used two goals by Hayley Hamada in the second half to break open a 1-0 game. No. 11/15 Virginia (5-4) had four saves by Devon Burnley in the second half.
The Terriers got on the scoreboard with their first shot of the game at 14:14 as Hayley Hamada fed Sarah Shute. It was BU's only shot on goal in the first half, and the visitors led 1-0 at halftime despite being outshot (3-1) and outcornered (3-1).
