Blue Devils Edge James Madison, 3-2

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke senior midfielder Mary Jo Reiders (Boyertown, Pa.) first goal of the season proved to be the game winner as the Blue Devils defeated visiting James Madison on Sunday, 3-2, at the East Campus Turf Field. Duke improves to 4-2, while James Madison falls to 2-3.

Reiders goal, which came with 9:19 left in the contest, gave the Blue Devils a 3-1 advantage. James Madison rallied with a goal by junior Julie Weiss (Newtown Square, PA) with :43 left in the game, but time expired before the Dukes could score again.

Duke started the game on the offensive, with a goal by junior Caroline Helwig (San Francisco, CA) at the 30:40 mark and another by junior Corey Ceccolini (Branford, CT) with 22:04 remaining in the first half.

James Madison had six shots on goal in the first half, but could only convert on one with a goal by junior Katrina Hunter (Stillwater, PA) at the 16:20 mark. Hunter had six shots in the contest.

Duke goalkeeper Jenn Robb, a junior from McLean, VA, registered nine saves in the Blue Devil victory.

Duke has the week off before facing the nationally-ranked No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 26, in Chapel Hill at 1 pm, followed by a home contest against Richmond at 1 pm on Sunday, Sept. 27.
