Top-Ranked UNC Earns Fourth Consecutive Shutout, 7-0

Freshman Katelyn Falgowski scored the first two goals of her career and added two assists Thursday as the top-ranked North Carolina field hockey team beat visiting Appalachian State on a rainy evening at Francis E. Henry Stadium. The win was the fourth consecutive shutout for UNC (9-0) and marked the second game in a row in which the Tar Heels have not given up a shot.

Falgowski, a midfielder from Landenberg, Pa., scored the Tar Heels' first goal just 3:40 into the game on a penalty corner, UNC's second of the evening. Senior Rachel Dawson had the assist, her first of the year. Senior Jesse Gey made it 2-0 just over four minutes later with a hard shot from the top of the circle. Senior Laree Beans tipped in a pass from Falgowski to make it 3-0 13:38 into the game. Read More
