Ceccolini Leads Duke Past Wake in OT
September 17, 1998 DURHAM, N.C. - Junior foward Corey Ceccolini (Branford, Conn.) scored both Duke goals, one in regulation and another in overtime, to lead the Blue Devils to a 2-1 victory over Wake Forest on Wednesday night at the East Campus Turf Field. The 13th-ranked Blue Devils improve to 3-2, while Wake Forest drops to 1-4.
After a scoreless first half, the Demon Deacons got into the scoring column first on a goal by Amy Marchell with 31:04 left in the second half. Ceccolini then responded with Dukes first goal of the evening moments later when she scored off a double assist from sophomore back Courtney Sommer (Tulsa, Okla.) and senior forward Emily Ford (Harwich, Mass.) with 29:40 remaining in the second half. Ceccolini then sealed the win in overtime with a goal off a penalty corner with an assist by junior midfielder Keri Dunn (Scituate, Mass.)
Duke out shot Wake Forest 16-9, while Blue Devil goalkeeper Jenn Robb (McLean, Va.) posted six saves in the victory.
Duke returns to action on Sunday at 1 pm when it hosts James Madison at the East Campus Turf Field.
