#18 Duke Shuts Out William & Mary
September 13, 1998 WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The 18th-ranked Duke field hockey team posted its first shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over William & Mary on Sunday. The Blue Devils improve to 2-2, while the Tribe (3-1) suffers its first loss of the year.
Junior forward Corey Ceccolini (Branford, Conn.) scored the games only goal with 8:35 left in the first half. Sophomore back Courtney Sommer (Tulsa, Okla.) and senior Emily Ford (Harwich, Mass.) provided the assists for Ceccolinis goal. Junior goalkeeper Jenn Robb (McLean, Va.) recorded six saves en route to her first-career shutout. Duke outshot William & Mary 16-7.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they host Wake Forest in their home opener. Gametime at the East Campus Turf Field is 7 p.m.
