Sept. 6, 2008 Wake Forest Tops No. 1 UNC with Penalty Stroke Edge WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The third-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team posted a 2-1 win over No. 1 North Carolina, pulling the victory with a 3-1 edge in strokes following two extra periods. Wake Forest is now 3-0 for the year while the top-ranked Tar Heels fell to 1-2. Boston College downs Quinnipiac 2-0 The Boston College Women's Field Hockey Team started their second weekend of play with a 2-0 win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats. An offensive minded first period saw the Eagles pushing hard against Quinnipiac's defensive unit. BC got on the board when forward Chelsey Feole took a pass from linemate Bob Dirks and slammed the ball past the Bobcat goalkeeper Jenna Grossman to record her fourth goal of the season. O'Donnell Scores Four Times to Propel Field Hockey to Win COLLEGE PARK, Md. - On the strength sophomore Katie O'Donnell's four goals, the second-ranked Maryland field hockey team routed No. 8 Old Dominion, 8-1, in its home opener on Friday afternoon. The eight goals by the Terps are the most scored since the opening game of the 2003 campaign and it is the most goals ever scored by either team in the series, dating back to 1982. The Terps (3-0), controlled the game for the entire 70 minutes, pressuring Old Dominion (0-3) from the opening whistle. Maryland broke through the ODU defense at the 20-minute mark, as junior Brianna Davies flicked a pass over to classmate Nicole Muracco in front of the net for Muracco to score. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 11th-ranked Virginia field hockey team (3-0) tallied eight goals, including a hat trick from third-year Traci Ragukas, to beat Vermont 8-2 Friday at the UHall Turf Field. First-year Michelle Vittese added two scores while Inge Kaars Sijpestein, Paige Selenski and Floor Vogels also scored for the Orange and Blue. UVa’s eight goals are the most during head coach Michele Madison’s tenure. The last time the Cavaliers scored eight goals was back in 2004, an 8-0 victory over Longwood at home.
