ETON, England - Former University of Virginia rower Lindsay Shoop (2002-04) won a gold medal for the U.S. in the women's eight at the World Championships over the weekend.

The Americans' world record time of 5:55.50 beat out Germany (5:57.29). The Charlottesville native was a two-time All-American while at UVa. Shoop helped the Cavaliers to four straight ACC Championships.

Senior All-American Melanie Kok (Catharines, Ontario) raced for Canada in the lightweight quad. The defending gold medalists finished sixth (6:46.38) as China captured the gold (6:23.96). A 2006 first-team All-South Region and All-ACC honoree, Kok helped the UVa varsity eight to the 2006 ACC championship.
