LINZ, Austria- - University of Virginia rower Jennifer Reck was the stroke of the United States women's four crew that finished second at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships on Sunday (July 29).

The U.S. crew made a furious charge during the final 500 meters of the race to overtake Germany for the silver medal. The U.S. crew was 1.07 seconds behind Germany at the 1,500-meter mark, but came back to earn the silver medal by .73 second. Australia won the race with a time of 6:50.93 with the United States second (6:52.90) and Germany third (6:53.63).

Reck, from Grosse Point Park, Mich., will be a sophomore at UVa this fall.

Wyatt Allen, a member of the Virginia men's club rowing team, was a member of the United States men's eight crew that also finished second at the championships. Canada won that event with a time of 5:44.22 with the United States second (5:45.70) and Poland third (5:47.67).
