Duke University head coach Robyn Horner recently announced the hiring of Jim Lister and Emily Egge as assistant coaches with the rowing program. Lister's primary responsibilities will be assisting with the varsity squad and acting as the rigger, while Egge will work with the novice squad and serve as the recruiting coordinator.

Lister was the assistant men's heavyweight coach at Cornell in 2002-2003. While at Cornell, he coached the 3V boat to an undefeated regular season and assisted the program to a fourth place finish in the all-around points title at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship. In his 12 years of coaching, Lister has coached at Skidmore College, Wellesley College, Brookline High School, and Community Rowing Inc., of Boston. Lister also worked as a boat builder for Van Dusen Racing Shells in Concord, Mass.

"Jim brings a multitude of coaching experience with him to Duke," said Horner. "I am very excited to have him on staff and I think he'll make a impact on the continued development of our program."

Lister received his Bachelor's degree in Biology from University of Albany in 1992 and has a Master's degree in Exercise Science from Skidmore College.

Egge joins the Blue Devils after a one-year stint as the freshmen men's coach at Georgetown University. Prior to Georgetown, Egge was the graduate assistant rowing coach at the University of Louisville. While at Louisville, Egge earned a Masters of Science in Sport Management. Egge earned a bachelor of arts degree in 2000 from the University of Virginia.

While at Virginia, Egge led her crew to NCAA Championships in 1998 and 1999. Egge was also an ACC champion and all-conference selection in 2000. Egge served as the team captain in 1999-2000. Prior to attending Virginia, Egge was a member of the 1996 US Junior National Rowing Team.

"I am ecstatic to have Emily on staff," Horner said. "Emily is a very intense competitor. She will bring a tremendous amount of energy and drive to our novice program. I am looking forward to her making a significant contribution to the development of our program."

Duke opens its fall season on Saturday, September 27 when it faces North Carolina at Lake Michie in Bahama, N.C.
