RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Another Virginia Cavalier has struck gold at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. Alumna rower Margaret Matia (`05) and teammate Sarah Trowbridge won the gold medal in the women's double sculls on Wednesday morning.

The Americans won in 7:06.49. Canada's Peggy Hyslop and Cristin McCarty won silver in 7:09.02, while Cuba's Yurisleydis Venet and Mayra Gonzalez won bronze in 7:12.72. Argentina's Lucia Palermo and Maria Laura Abalo finished fourth in 7:21.62.

Matia has another chance at a gold medal tomorrow as she, Trowbridge, and teammates Reilly Dampeer and Julie Nichols compete in the women's quadruples sculls final on Thursday, July 18 at 9:45 a.m.
