CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina rowing coach Sarah Haney has announced UNC's team award winners for the 2004-05 season. Julie Domina, a senior co-captain from Cary, N.C., was honored as the MVP of the varsity squad, while Megan Mitzel, a sophomore from Catonsville, Md., was named the novice squad MVP.

Emily Glunz, a senior from Charlotte and the varsity team's other co-captain, earned the Coach's Award, while Reine Duffy, a freshman from Ridgewood, N.J., was the recipient of the Coach's Award for the novice squad.

The novice team also gave out two additional awards. Devin Hudson, a freshman from Charlotte, was named Most Improved and Anna DeLoach, a freshman from Huntersville, N.C., received the Spirit Award. Awards for Outstanding Performer in Strength and Conditioning went to Cleo Washington (varsity) and Tiffany Pierce (novice). Washington is a sophomore from Bear, Del., and Pierce is a freshman from Fayetteville, N.C.

The team also recognized 17 squad members who earned Dean's List honors during the 2004-05 school year and 20 who were named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

Team members named to the Dean's List in the fall semester were Lucy Barrios, Julie Domina, Lauren Eney, Emily Glunz, Clara Leigh, Terry McCloskey, Edythe McNamee, Megan Mitzel, Sarah Norris, Christina Payne, Caroline Pinkston, Adriann Spinks, Chris Tommerdahl and Jess Ziebell. Spring honorees were Domina, Hannah Early, Regina Elwell, Eney, Becci Foster, Glunz, Mitzel, Pinkston and Tommerdahl.

Those named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the 2004-05 school year were Barrios, Anna DeLoach, Domina, Hannah Early, Eney, Becci Foster, Glunz, Leigh, McCloskey, McNamee, Mitzel, Norris, Payne, Pinkston, Lauren Portnow, Lauren Reid, Laura Rock, Spinks, Tommerdahl and Ziebell.
