Rowing Along: Meredith Krull

June 12, 2001

Meredith Krull is a rising senior from Raleigh and a member of the UNC rowing team. Throughout the year, she will provide TarHeelBlue.com readers with an inside look at her team and the experience of being a varsity athlete at North Carolina.

If you were looking for another common thread the women on the rowing team share, it is defintely our love of travel! It has only been a few weeks since graduation, yet it already seems you can find one of us in just about any region of the country. Here's what several people are up to:

Kudos to Dana Peirce, who is currently in Ithaca, N.Y. She is among some of the best collegiate rowers vying for a seat in the straight four that will represent the United States abroad this summer. Good luck Dana!

Lauren Yoder reports she's having a great summer so far. She's working at Camp Seafarer in Arapahoe, N.C., where she is on the motorboating staff and is also a cabin counselor.

Lindsay Pichaske is spending most of her summer at the National Zoo in Maryland, where she works with the gorillas and orangutans. She should have many interesting stories to tell upon her return to Chapel Hill!

If you happen to be in Buena Vista, Colo., look for Jenny Morris and Laura Fogt. They are both working for white water rafting companies and enjoying the outdoors. They, too, have had some wild adventures!

Coach Joel Furtek just returned from a short trip to Iowa, where he enjoyed one of his hobbies by attending an old truck auction. He's back in the office now, preparing for the arrival of our new assistant coach, Sarah Haney. Be sure to welcome her back to Carolina!

As for me, I'm in Seattle, Wash., working at Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center as a sailing and windsurfing instructor. Despite the rain, I'm having an amazing experience out on Lake Washington. I'm loving the West coast, but I can't wait to be back home at UNC!

Keep logging on to our website for more updates on what our team and the Carolina rowing staff is up to this summer!

Yours in Carolina Blue,
