June 9, 2000

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-Junior rower Dana Peirce finished the 2000 season with honors for both her performance on the water and her hard work off of it. Peirce was one of three Tar Heel rowers who recently received post-season recognition from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Peirce, who is from Richmond, Va., earned second-team All-Central Region honors for her rowing performance this spring and also was named a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, which requires a grade point average of at least 3.5. Peirce is majoring in biology and carries a GPA of 3.51.

She was joined on each of the squads by a teammate. Danae Ringelmann, a senior from San Francisco, also was named to the National Scholar-Athlete team. She has a GPA of 3.75 in her American studies major. A total of 96 Division I rowers from across the country earned the academic honor.

UNC junior Erin Neppel earned a spot on the All-Central Region first team, which recognizes her as one of the top eight rowers in the region. Earlier in the season, Neppel and Peirce also were recognized as All-Atlantic Coast Conference performers. Neppel is from Raleigh, where she attended Millbrook High.
