Two Duke Rowers Named National Rowing Scholar Athletes

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association is pleased to announce the selection of the National Rowing Scholar-Athletes of the Year. These are awarded to all NCAA Divisions.

Duke's Joanna Hingle and Maren Betts-Sonstegard were named National Scholar Athletes at the National Rowing Scholar-Athletes of the Year Awards 2001.

The criteria for determining the student-athletes selected are:

The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution

The student-athlete must be in her 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of eligibility The student-athlete must have rowed in her institutionās varsity boat for a minimum of 75% of the current seasonās races (including all races before May 17, 2001)

The student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher gpa.
