![]() Miami's Novice Four Named ACC Crew of the Week
April 17, 2006 GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Miami's novice four was named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after winning all three of its races this weekend at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Milton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Miami's novice four squad of Marcy Gunning (coxswain), Megan Hudson, Justine Lewis, Olivia Arkell-Charbonneau, and Anika Arevalo won both its quarterfinal and semifinal heats en route to the Grand Final win on Saturday. On Friday, Miami's novice four turned in a time of 8:28.6 to claim the top spot in its quarterfinal heat, besting Stetson, Grand Valley State, Davidson and Vanderbilt. In the semifinals on Saturday, the Hurricanes turned in a time of 8:00.1 to take first in the event, this time coming in ahead of Georgia, Georgia State, Tulsa and Tulane to qualify for the Grand Final. Miami turned up the intensity in the Grand Final, racing to an 8:09.5 finish, more than nine seconds faster than second-place Murray State (8:18.21). Georgia, Kansas, Jacksonville and Louisville rounded out the field. Miami returns to action on Friday, April 22, at the ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C. - ACC -
