CAMDEN, N.J.-- - The University of Virginia finished third in all three grande finals to finish third in the team competition at the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships at Cooper River Park on Sunday (May 28). Brown won the team championship for the second consecutive year by winning both the first varsity eight and the second varsity eight competitions, while Washington finished second as a team and won the varsity four competition.

Brown finished with 59 team points followed by Washington (55) and Virginia (48). California-Berkeley finished fourth in the team competition with 38 points followed by Michigan (34), Princeton (32), Boston University (20), Michigan State (18), Ohio State (13) and Harvard-Radcliffe (13).

In the first varsity eight grande final, Brown won with a time of 6:37.20 and Washington was second at 6:41.10. Virginia finished third (6:42.79) followed by California-Berkeley (6:46.50), Michigan (6:49.29) and Princeton (6:50.20).

In the second varsity eight grande final, Brown won with a time of 6:48.39 and Washington was second at 6:58.79. Virginia finished third (7:00.89) followed by Michigan (7:02.60), Princeton (7:06.00) and California-Berkeley (7:07.70).

UVa won the national championship in the second varsity eight in 1998 and 1999.

In the varsity four grande final, Washington won with a time of 7:49.00 and Brown was second at 7:53.10. Virginia finished third (7:55.10) followed by California-Berkeley (7:57.39), Boston University (8:02.50) and Princeton (8:17.60).

Virginia has finished in the top four in the team competition at each of the four NCAA Women's Rowing Championships. The Cavaliers finished fourth in 1997, third in 1998 and second last year.
