UVA'S Varsity Four Wins At Eastern Sprints

NEW PRESTON, Conn. - A victory by the first varsity four highlighted the performance of the University of Virginia women's rowing team at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday (May 14).

Virginia, one of 18 teams participating in the Eastern Sprints, finished second in the second varsity four, third in the second varsity eight and fourth in the first varsity eight.

The Cavaliers won the first varsity four with a time of 7:46.6 followed by Cornell (7:50.6) and Brown (7:54.3). Radcliffe finished fourth (7:57.3) followed by Wisconsin (7:59.7) and Princeton (8:04.0).

Brown finished first in the second varsity four with a time of 8:30.5 with Virginia second (8:34.5), Princeton third (8:40.9) and Cornell fourth (8:42.8).

Brown won the second varsity eight with a time of 6:34.2 followed by Princeton (6:43.6) and UVa (6:48.1). Wisconsin finished fourth (6:53.3) with Radcliffe fifth (6:54.0) and Boston University sixth (7:04.9).

In the first varsity eight, Brown was first with a time of 6:38.5 followed by Radcliffe (6:44.9), Princeton (6:47.5) and Virginia (6:49.6). Boston University was fifth (6:50.0) and Yale was sixth (6:54.5).

UVa's first novice eight finished eighth and the Cavaliers' second novice eight was sixth at the Eastern Sprints.

The Cavaliers expect to learn this week if they will be competing in the NCAA Championships scheduled for May 26-28 in Camden, N.J.
