Foley, Black Lead Duke Past St. John's, 105-57, In Surf'N Slam Classic

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Jessica Foley scored a season-high 14 points, including four of Duke's school record-tying 13 3-pointers, and the second-ranked Blue Devils routed St. John's 102-57 Wednesday night in the opening round of the Surf and Slam Hoop Classic. Chante Black tied a career high with 16 points and eight rebounds for Duke (10-0), which will face San Diego in the championship game Friday night. Monique Currie had 15 points, Mistie Williams and Laura Kurz added 13 apiece and Alison Bales 11. Angela Clark led St. John's (9-2) with 17 points. The Blue Devils raced out to a 17-2 lead in the first 7 minutes of the game, and finished shooting 57 percent from the field - including 13-for-23 on 3-pointers. The last time Duke made 13 3s was Jan. 17 against Georgia Tech. The Blue Devils came into the game leading the country in seven categories, including scoring offense (95.1), scoring margin (44.4) and field-goal percentage (54.4). They have scored 100 or more points in five games this season. St. John's and Montana State (0-10) will meet in the consolation game on Friday.
St. John's vs. #2/2 Duke * Duke scored 105 points, which is the fourth time this season the Blue Devils have reached the 100-point plateau. * The Blue Devils tied a school-record with 13 three-pointers in the game and have hit 25 treys over the last two contests. * For only the second time this season, Duke had six players score 10 or more points. * Senior Jessica Foley came off the bench in the first half to score nine points on three treys. She finished the game with a season-high 14 points on 4-of-5 three-pointers. * Chante Black was an offensive force in the game scoring a career-high tying 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and two blocks. * For the fifth time this season, sophomore Laura Kurz scored double-figure as she finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting. * As a team, Duke shot 56.9 percent from the field marking the fourth straight game and eighth time this season the Blue Devils have shot 50.0 percent or better this season. * Senior Mistie Williams scored double-figures for the third straight game and seventh time this season with her 13 points and seven rebounds. * Duke broke/tied two Surf'N Slam records-- most points in a game (105) and tied for most three-pointers made (13). * Duke will next play San Diego in the championship game of the Surf-N Slam Classic on Friday at 11:00 p.m. (EDT). San Diego defeated Montana State, 53-48, in the first game of the classic.
