Virginia Takes Third at Junkanoo Jam with 76-47 Win Over Central Florida

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama Island - The Virginia Cavaliers captured third place at the Junkanoo Jam with a 76-47 win over Central Florida on Saturday at St. George's High School.

With the win, Virginia improved to 4-2 overall, while UCF fell to 1-6 on the season.

In the first half, Virginia scored the first bucket and never looked back. The Cavaliers jumped out to a quick 17-7 lead en route to a 17-point advantage. UVa held a 13-point edge at intermission, 36-23.

In the second half, Virginia opened the stanza with a 12-0 run, holding the Golden Knights scoreless over the first six minutes of action. UVa pulled ahead by as many as 32 points before it was all over.

Virginia Tech crushes Tennessee Tech

MALIBU, Calif. - Virginia Tech used a dominant inside game and red-hot shooting to easily defeat Tennessee Tech, 87-52, in the consolation game of the Pepperdine Thanksgiving tournament. The event was played at Firestone Fieldhouse on the University of Pepperdine campus.

Tech (4-3) dominated from the outset by pounding the ball inside and never looked back in the lopsided affair. The Hokies shot 60.7 percent (37-61) from the field and never trailed, while dominating the boards with a 41-28 advantage. Tech scored 52 points in the paint while the Golden Eagles could muster only 10 on the inside.

Tennessee Tech (1-3) shot only 28.3 percent (17-60) from the field, but did connect on 10-of-21 shots from behind the arc.

Miami Downs Indiana 79-70 to Win UM Thanksgiving Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Senior guard Renee Taylor knocked down 28 points en route to earning Tournament MVP honors as Miami defeated previously-unbeaten Indiana 79-70 Saturday in the championship game of the UM Thanksgiving Tournament at the BankUnited Center.

Averaging 23.5 points over the two-day tournament, Taylor, along with junior guard Maurita Reid, who was also named to the all-tournament team following an 18-point, five-steal performance against the Hoosiers (5-1), led the Hurricanes (6-1) to the nine-point victory marking just the sixth time in school history Miami has won six of it's first seven games of the season.

A three-pointer by Reid on Miami's first possession, which eventually led to an 11-4 opening run by the Hurricanes, gave UM the first basket of a game which it would never trail.

No. 5 Duke Gets First Road Win Over Michigan 92-47

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -Lindsey Harding scored 19 points to pace No. 5 Duke to a 92-47 win over Michigan on Saturday night.

The Blue Devils (5-0) led by double-digits for most of the way after outscoring Michigan 12-2 in the opening three minutes. Duke, fueled by Harding's 13 first-half points, were up by as many as 20 before taking a 44-26 halftime lead.

Michigan (4-2) had 22 turnovers, including 12 in the first half. The Wolverines, who got eight points from reserve sophomore forward Carly Benson, never got closer than 21 points in the second half.

Duke got 14 points from Alison Bales, who gave the Blue Devils a 83-43 lead after scoring inside with 3:51 remaining. Abby Waner added 14 points to go along with 11 from Carrem Gay.

No. 2 Carolina Pounds Gonzaga 101-63 in Rainbow Wahine Classic

HONOLULU (AP) -Ivory Latta scored 20 points and Erlana Larkins had 19 and No. 2 North Carolina beat Gonzaga 101-63 on Saturday to reach the final of the Rainbow Wahine Classic.

Seven players scored in double digits for the Tar Heels (5-0) in the semifinal game. They will face Arkansas in the tournament final on Sunday.

The Tar Heels dominated the Bulldogs (5-2) most of the game a day after Gonzaga upset No. 21 UCLA in the first round of the tournament. Camille Little and Heather Claytor had 12 for North Carolina, Jessica Breland had 13, and Alex Miller and LaToya Pringle each added 10.

No. 1 Maryland Wins Junkaroo Jam

FREEPORT, Bahamas (AP) - Shay Doron had 23 points and seven assists to help No. 1 Maryland rout Mississippi 110-79 on Saturday night in the Junkanoo Jam title game.

Laura Harper scored 19 points and Chystal Langhorne had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the defending NCAA champions Terrapins (7-0). Doron was selected the tournament MVP.

Boston College Falls to Vermont

Despite a double-double from senior Kathrin Ress (14 points, 14 rebounds), the Boston College women's basketball team fell to Vermont, 56-48, in the final of the University of Rhode Island Invitational at The Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island.

Boston College is now 4-2, while Vermont improved to 4-1. Next up for the Eagles is Fairfield on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Conte Forum (7 p.m.) in a non-conference game.

The Eagles ran into a determined Catamounts' team. Vermont shot ahead 16-7 just 10 minutes into the game. The Eagles scored a season-low 14 points in the half and shot 24 percent from the field. The Catamounts held a 24-14 lead.

Maine Hits Last Second Shot To Defeat Clemson, 80-78, In Dead River Company Classic Final On Saturday

ORONO, ME - Amanda Tewskbury hit a jumper as time expired to give her Maine Black Bears an 80-78 victory over Clemson in the Dead River Company Classic Championship game on Saturday. Lady Tigers D'Lesha Lloyd and Lele Hardy were named to the all-tournament team as Lloyd led Clemson in scoring in both games and Hardy totaled 28 points and 19 rebounds in the tournament.

The Lady Tigers fell to 2-4 on the year while Maine improved to 4-1 overall.

Lloyd was 8-13 from the field to lead Clemson with 16 points, and Hardy collected a Lady Tiger high 10 rebounds. Christy Brown also scored in double figures with 14 points on the night.
