GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland's Marissa Coleman and Boston College's Carolyn Swords were named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week after leading their respective squads to successful 2007-08 season openers last week. Coleman helped the fourth-ranked Terrapins to a 2-0 start, including an impressive 76-66 win over sixth-ranked Oklahoma in this year's State Farm Tip-Off Classic, while Swords tallied 23 points in her first collegiate debut.

Coleman capped the season-opening weekend by tallying game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Oklahoma at the State Farm Tip-Off Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. A preseason All-ACC pick, Coleman was 9-for-17 from the floor, handed out five assists and made three steals. The double-double was her first of the season and the 18th of her career.

Carolyn Swords In the Terps' season opener against Princeton in the first round of the Preseason WNIT, the Cheltenham, Maryland, native shot 50 percent from the floor, netting 14 points to go along with her eight rebounds. With Coleman's trip to the free throw line, the junior met the career minimums in the Maryland record books and currently holds the school record with an 82.0 career free throw percentage.

Newcomer Swords led the Eagles to a 68-36 victory over Wright State in the team's season opener. The freshman from Sudbury, Mass., had 23 points and six rebounds in the victory. In the first half alone, Swords had 16 points and went 8-for-11 from the field.

Coleman and the Terrapin family will hit the courts again Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET as the squad welcomes Delaware in the second round of the Preseason WNIT. Boston College's next game is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Amherst against Massachusetts at 6 p.m.
