COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The next "Top Terp Moment" of the year came when the women's basketball team cruised past Florida State in the ACC Quarterfinals, 62-47, on March 6, 2004. The win was the first ACC quarterfinal victory since 1998 and helped the Terps secure a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Freshman Shay Doron came off the bench to score 16 points to help lead the Terps to victory.

The Terps took their first lead after just over three minutes of action and never looked back. Although the Seminoles made a late run to cut the Maryland lead to just 10 with over four minutes remaining in the game, the Terps responded with a 10-2 run to put the game out of reach. Crystal Washington's scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Maryland secure the win.

Maryland 62, Florida State 47
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shay Doron scored 16 points to lead the University of Maryland women's basketball team over Florida State in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, 62-47, Saturday night at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King), a third-team All-ACC selection, led the Terrapins (17-11) to their first ACC Tournament quarterfinal victory since 1998. Doron grabbed four rebounds to go with her 16 points, while senior Crystal Washington (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara) posted her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Doron gave Maryland its first lead of the game at the 16:45 mark, draining a jumper from the free throw line to put the Terps up, 5-4. From there, the Terrapins never trailed again, as they scored the game's next 11 points.

The Terps continued to pull away, as two free throws from senior Delvona Oliver (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid), who finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, at 2:51 gave Maryland its largest lead of the first half, 30-15. A three-pointer by Tasheika Allen and a jumper by Lauren Bradley gave Florida State (14-14) a late first-half spurt, but Maryland took a 33-22 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Maryland, which outrebounded Florida State, 51-36, continued to dominate in the second half, stretching its lead to 20, 46-26, on a junior Anesia Smith (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) lay up at the 10-minute mark, before Florida State went on a 14-4 run to cut the lead to 10 with just over four minutes to play. Smith also had a game-high nine assists, tying a career best.

Head coach Brenda Frese's squad would regroup, however, and answered with a 10-2 spurt to stretch the lead back to 18 with 1:09 left to play. Doron, who was 7-9 from the free throw line, scored five points from the charity stripe to seal the victory for Maryland.

Florida State's Lauren Bradley was the only Seminole in double digits with 10 points, as Maryland limited Tashieka Allen, a second-team All-ACC performer, to seven points on 3-of-14 shooting.
