July 7, 2000

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State University women's basketball Head Coach Sue Semrau has announced that Tasheika Morris, a two-time first team Parade All-American, has officially transferred from the University of Tennessee and will play for the Seminoles. Morris, a native of Huntsville, Ala., will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2000-01 season per NCAA regulations.

A highly-touted prospect in 1999, Morris was listed as the fifth best senior in the nation by the Blue Star Index. Named a 1999 first-team All-American by USA TODAY and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Morris tallied 2,920 points and 1,805 rebounds during her career at Butler High School. The 1999 Miss Alabama Basketball, she averaged 21.8 points, 12.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists as a senior while leading her team to a 32-2 record and to the nation's top prep ranking.

The Class 6A Player of the Year in 1998 and 1999, Morris led the Lady Rebels to three consecutive state championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and was named Most Valuable Player as a senior after scoring 29 points in the title game.

"We feel very fortunate to have another player of this caliber join our program," Semrau said. "Tasheika's truly the total package. She's a quality person, a good student and obviously a very talented athlete. She comes from a very successful high school program and has learned what it takes to be a winner."

Morris, a 6-0 forward, played in 23 games as a rookie for the Lady Vols and recorded season-highs of 11 points and four rebounds vs. Memphis.
