Week 4: Melvin and Stinson Continue To Pace Pack Pro Hoopsters
June 24, 2002 Cleveland's Chasity Melvin and Charlotte's Andrea Stinson continued to lead NC State's four WNBA players during the league's fourth week of action. Charlotte's Summer Erb and Houston's Tynesa Lewis also saw limited action during the week. Melvin and the Rockers kicked off their week of action on Wednesday with a 66-62 loss to the Orlando Miracle. Melvin poured in 10 points in 29 minutes, grabbing three rebounds and going 6-6 from the line. However, Melvin saved her best performance of the week for Friday when she exploded for a franchise-record 30 points in an 80-69 thumping of the New York Liberty. She went 12-16 from the field, 6-7 from the free throw line, and snared six boards. She also recorded three assists and two blocks on the evening. In Cleveland's final game of the week, Melvin posted her seventh double-figure game of the season in a 63-45 loss to the Washington Mystics. Melvin totaled 10 points in 28 minutes, while grabbing four rebounds. Stinson's week with the Sting also began on Wednesday when Charlotte dismantled Washington 78-64.
