DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University women's basketball head coach Gail Goestenkors announced on Tuesday former Blue Devil All-America and current Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) member Georgia Schweitzer will remain on the Duke staff as an assistant coach and Shaeeta Brown will remain on the staff as an Administrative Assistant.

"We are really excited to have Georgia on staff," said Goestenkors. "She has gained so much knowledge playing in the WNBA these past two years. Georgia brings back new ideas as well as a mental and physical toughness that has really helped our young players to learn and grow."

Schweitzer joined the Blue Devil staff in December of last season and helped guide the Blue Devils (31-4) to their third consecutive ACC Championship and a trip to the NCAA Final Four. Her duties will include recruiting, scouting, working with the guards and video tape exchange. The Columbus, Ohio native will join the Blue Devils in late August or early September at the conclusion of her season with the Minnesota Lynx. On the season so far, Schweitzer has started two of the first three games at point guard with the Lynx winning both of those contests.

"Obviously, I am very, very excited to be coming back to Duke," said Schweitzer. "I remember when Coach Goestenkors recruited me she wanted me to be a part of winning their first national championship. I am excited I have the opportunity to be a part of this goal. Coach Goestenkors is a great person to learn from and I love being at Duke."

Brown will enter her second season with the Blue Devil women's basketball program after graduating from Duke in 1998. Originally from Brusly, La., Brown's duties will include marketing, promotions, community relations, academic support, video editing and recruiting.

"We feel great we are able to keep Shaeeta on staff," said Goestenkors. "We know she will do a great job working within the community. She will help us with our community relations, marketing and promotions of our program to try to help us put more fans in the stands. Shaeeta is a natural to help us with our academics as she graduated from Duke."

Duke returns seven of the eight letterwinners from last season and welcomes one of the top two recruiting classes in the nation for 2002-03.

"We feel very fortunate to have both of our former players on staff in helping us on our quest to win a national championship," said Goestenkors.
