Two Seminoles Selected For NCAA Leadership Conference
May 12, 2000 TALLAHASSEE, FL - The NCAA released their selections for the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference today and two of Florida State's student-athletes were invited to participate. Out of the 885 nominated student-athletes, only 353 were selected. The conference is scheduled to be held May 28 through June 1, 2000 at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Sophomore Chris Williams and junior Vanessa Fuchs were selected to represent Florida State at the prestigious conference. Williams is a well-respected international runner who mainly runs middle distance and occasionally sprints for FSU's mens track and field team. He was a member of the Model United Nations in 1996 an 1997, voted student government treasurer as a senior, and is pursuing an English degree. Fuchs, a guard and forward for the Lady Seminoles basketball team, is a two-time All-ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and a Communications major. Fuchs and Williams will join a diverse group of the nation's top
student-athletes and will be given the opportunity to participate in
challenging and thought-provoking activities. The conference aims to enable
the student-athletes to become better leaders on their campuses and in
their communities. It also attempts to enhance communication,
decision-making and problem-solving skills and promote better communication
among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, and communities.
