Brandi Teamer Invited to World Championship Trials
May 2, 2002 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Virginia's Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) has been invited to participate in the 2002 World Championship for Young Women Trials slated for May 17-20 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The trials will be used to select a 12-member team which will compete at the 2002 World Championship for Young Women Qualification Tournament on July 17-21 in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. The squad representing the United States will be chosen by the Women's Collegiate Committee. Eligible athletes for the trials must be U.S. citizens born on or before January 1, 1982 (aged 20 and younger). Texas Tech's Marsha Sharp will serve as the squad's head coach. As a freshman in 2001-02, Teamer earned the 2002 Gballmag.com's National Freshman of the Year, ACC Rookie of the Year, All-ACC second team honors, and ACC All-Freshmen Team accolades after helping UVA to a third-place finish in the ACC standings and a 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Cavaliers' 6-0 forward started all 30 games at Virginia as a true freshman. Teamer finished her rookie campaign second in team scoring with 14.3 ppg and an ACC-best 8.9rpg, She earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors six times during the regular season. The frosh also led the Conference in double-double performances with 13. In ACC games only, she was the UVa scoring leader with 16.1 ppg. She was also named to Tulane's Doubletree Classic all-tournament team in December.
