Roy Heintz To Join FSU Women's Basketball Staff

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State women's basketball Head Coach Sue Semrau has announced that Roy Heintz, the Athletic Director and Head Girls Basketball Coach at The First Academy in Orlando, Florida, will join the FSU coaching staff in July. Heintz will replace Leslie Davies, who is leaving the program after three years to pursue other interests. Heintz has been with The First Academy since July of 1996 where he compiled an impressive 72-25 record as head coach of the girls' basketball team and led the Lady Royals to the 1997-98 and 1998-99 Florida Class A state championships. A two-time Florida Athletic Coaches Association District Coach of the Year, Heintz also oversaw and directed the Junior Varsity, Junior High and 7th grade girls teams. He was elected by his peers to the Florida High School Athletic Association Basketball Advisory Committee and is also an active member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. As Athletic Director at The First Academy, Heintz was responsible for 10 girls and nine boys interscholastic sports, including 35 teams and 43 coaches. He also managed the athletic budget and coordinated all the event management, marketing and public and media relations for the department. In addition to his duties at The First Academy, Heintz has worked as the National Clinic Coordinator and Clinician for the Crosspoint Basketball Coaching Clinics since July. Active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Heintz has served as the team chaplain for the Orlando Magic since October of 1994. Heintz is a 1985 graduate of the University of South Florida. He spent two years at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg where he worked as an assistant coach for the men's and women's basketball teams, the head coach for women's volleyball and sports information director. He and his wife Sharon have a daughter, Sarah, who is nine.
