CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - University of Virginia women's basketball assistant coach Shawn Campbell has been promoted to Associate Head Coach as announced by Head Coach Debbie Ryan.

Campbell, long considered one of the top assistants in the women's game, has been at Virginia for 15 years and is responsible for Virginia's recruiting and scouting. He has been instrumental in the recruitment and development of All-Americans Dawn Staley, Tammi Reiss, Tonya Cardoza and Wendy Palmer.

"Shawn has been a top assistant in the country over the last decade," said Ryan. "I felt like he has done an outstanding job and has done alot for the program. He's very deserving of the title. He will no doubt have a head coaching job shortly."

Campbell, a native of Yardville, N.J., graduated from Trenton State University in 1982 with a degree in Health and Physical Education and received a master's degree in Athletic Administration from the same institution in 1985.
