April 18, 2000
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State University women's basketball Head Coach Sue Semrau has announced the signing of Petra Hofmann, a 5-8 point guard from Cowley County (KS) Community College, to a a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seminoles. Hofmann, who hails from Pecs (Paytch), Hungary, was a two-time all-region performer at Cowley County Community in Arkansas City, Kan., and averaged 10.8 points, 7.0 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game last season. She also earned all-league honors the past two years in the Jayhawk Conference -- one of the top junior college conferences in the nation. Hofmann was a member of the Hungarian Junior National Team and helped guide her high school squad to the national title. "We feel very fortunate to have signed one of the best junior college point guards in the country in Petra." Semrau said. "The Jayhawk Conference is one of the best junior college conferences in the nation. Petra will bring much needed experience to the point guard position and will have the opportunity to contribute immediately. She and Shanelle (Stallworth) will be great additions to our program and will help add depth to our team." Hofmann, who is undecided on a major, selected Florida State over Clemson and Providence. She joins Shanelle Stallworth, a 6-2 forward out of Daytona Beach Community College, who signed with FSU last week. Florida State has one scholarship remaining for the 2000-01 season.
