COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's basketball coach Chris Weller has announced the signing of 5-7 guard Sarah Jenkins (Bowie, Md.) to a national letter of intent.

Jenkins, a third-team Washington Post All-Met selection last season and an honorable mention pick as a junior, averaged 13.9 points as a senior while pulling down six rebounds and adding four steals and three assists per game.

"Sarah is a lightning-quick guard that can play both the two-guard and point guard positions," said Weller. "Defensively, she is an intense competitor with a relentless winning attitude. We are expecting her to come in and add depth and productivity to our backcourt."

At Riverdale Baptist, Jenkins guided the Crusaders to a 26-1 record in 1999-2000. She was her team's MVP the past two seasons, and its most outstanding defensive player.

Jenkins was among just 75 players invited to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association invitation-only camp last summer. She has been an honor roll student all four years of her prep career.
