Jan. 21, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland junior forward Alyssa Thomas and Boston College freshman guard Nicole Boudreau have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Thomas averaged 23 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Terps. She notched her 10th double-double of the season in Maryland’s 66-57 win at Georgia Tech on Jan. 20 when she scored a game-high 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. With a short Terrapin bench, Thomas showed her versatility, playing positions 1-4, and averaged seven assists per game. Against NC State, Thomas fought through early foul trouble and managed to total 18 points, seven boards and six assists in the 82-62 win.
It is the third time Thomas has been named ACC Player of the Week this season and seventh time in her career.
Boudreau earned her first ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after averaging 17 points and 5.5 rebounds, while making 50 percent of her attempts overall from the floor and from long range. She was Boston College’s leading scorer with 18 points in the Eagles’ loss at No. 22/24 Florida State on Jan. 17. In the double overtime loss to Wake Forest, Boudreau registered her third straight game of 10-or-more points when she contributed 16 points. She drained four 3-pointers in both games, and leads the ACC with 42 made 3-pointers for the season.
