Duke Women's Basketball Tops Quinnipiac; Black Nearly Nets Triple-Double

DURHAM, N.C. — Chante Black has made a habit of filling up the stat sheet during her career.

She delivered an appropriate performance en route to a milestone. Black scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help No. 6 Duke defeat Quinnipiac 78-50 on Sunday.

Black, who became the sixth player in ACC history with 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 200 blocked shots in a career, added three blocked shots and a career-high eight steals for the Blue Devils (10-1).

Thriller on the Bayou: FSU Earns 61-57 Victory Over LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Florida State women's basketball team defeated LSU 61-57 Sunday in a nail-biting contest at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.

With the Seminoles (10-4) trailing 55-54 with 1:35 left in the game, sophomore point guard Courtney Ward drew a shooting foul and consequently drilled both of her free-throws to give the Seminoles a 56-55 lead. But LSU's Katherin Graham answered on the other end with a short jumper to put the Tigers back on top 57-56 with just over a minute to play.

No. 2 Tar Heels Romp Over Western Michigan

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -Italee Lucas scored 17 points and Jessica Breland added 15 to lead five Tar Heels in double figures and help No. 2 North Carolina shake off the rust of an eight-day layoff with a 102-55 win Sunday over Western Michigan.

She'la White had 12 points, including a layup with 1:03 to play that put the Tar Heels over 100 for the third time this season. Heather Claytor chipped in 11 points and Cetera DeGraffenreid 10 for North Carolina (13-0).

No. 15 Virginia Cruises Past Rider, 83-38

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Monica Wright scored 22 points and Lyndra Littles added 21 to lead No. 15 Virginia to an 83-38 victory over visiting Rider Sunday on the opening day of the Marriott Cavalier Classic at John Paul Jones Arena.

In the first game of the Marriott Cavalier Classic, Louisiana Tech defeated UMBC, 83-62. UMBC and Rider will face each other Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the consolation game, followed by the championship game (UVa vs. Louisiana Tech) at 7 p.m.

Wake Forest Stifles ETSU Rally for 72-66 Win

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The East Tennessee State Buccaneers cut the Wake Forest lead to just one point with two minutes to play, but a jump shot from Corinne Groves allowed the Demon Deacons to stay ahead in the final minute en route to a 72-66 win.

ETSU forward Siarre Evans was the leading scorer with 22 points and leading rebounder with 13 boards. Wake Forest sophomore Brittany Waters netted a team-high 19 points and junior Courteney Morris led the Deacons in rebounding with nine.
