Wake Forest Cruises Past Appalachian State, 68-35

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind a stifling defense that forced 38 turnovers, Wake Forest cruised past Appalachian State 68-35 on Friday evening at the Joel Coliseum Annex.

The Demon Deacons (3-0) were relentless on the defensive end for the second straight game this week. Wake forced 36 turnovers in its 62-27 defeat of UNC Greensboro on Monday. The Deacs topped that performance in impressive fashion on Friday, pressuring the visiting Mountaineers (0-3) into 38 miscues.

Duke Falls To Hartford, 53-51

CHICAGO — Lisa Etienne scored 15 points to help Hartford upset No. 6 Duke 53-51 in the first game of the DePaul Invitational on Friday night.

Diana Delva had 12 and MaryLynne Schaefer added 10 for the Hawks (3-0), who beat a ranked team for the fourth straight season.

Houston Out-Shoots Miami, 70-64

HOUSTON - The University of Miami women's basketball team (1-2) fell to the clutch-shooting Houston Cougars (3-1), 70-64 at Hofheinz Pavilion, Friday evening.

Timely Houston three-pointers were the difference in the game, as the Cougars hit 7 of 11 in the second-half, each coming at the most inopportune times for the Hurricanes. On four different occasions Houston hit a three-pointer that gave them the lead after the score was tied or with Miami leading.

No. 11 Virginia Falls At No. 25 Old Dominion, 78-70

NORFOLK, Va. – No. 11 Virginia fell at No. 25 Old Dominion, 78-70, Friday night in women’s basketball action. Monica Wright led the Cavaliers with 23 points, while Chelsea Shine added a career-high 16 points.

Virginia (2-1) trailed most of the first half, and Jazzmin Walters (11 points) and Jessica Canady (nine points) led the Lady Monarchs to a 33-25 halftime lead over the Cavaliers.
