    Lady Tigers Defeat Presbyterian, 66-35, On Sunday Afternoon

    CLEMSON, SC - The Lady Tigers went on an 18-3 run to end the first half and forced 30 turnovers in the game as they defeated Presbyterian, 66-35, on Sunday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum. Sophomore Jasmine Tate scored six points during the stretch to finish in double figures for the first time in her career, while Lele Hardy led Clemson (1-1) in scoring for the second straight game with 13.

    "This was a good win for us," said Clemson Head Coach Cristy McKinney. "We improved on a lot of things from the last game. The girls played better defense, had fewer fouls and grabbed a lot of rebounds."

    Duke Dominates Maine, 98-31

    DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie helped her current star reach a milestone.

    Chante Black scored 16 points and reached 1,000 for her career in the eighth-ranked Blue Devils' 98-31 rout of Maine on Sunday.

    Krystal Thomas had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Joy Cheek added 10 points. Duke (2-0) shot nearly 48 percent while holding Maine to 26 percent shooting in helping McCallie beat the Maine program she led to six NCAA tournaments in eight seasons from 1992-2000.

    Florida State Opens Season With 81-62 Victory Over Florida Gulf Coast


     

     

    TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's basketball team opened its 2008-09 season Sunday with an 81-62 victory over visiting Florida Gulf Coast at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

    The game's outcome marked the 15th consecutive year in which the Seminoles picked up a victory on opening day.

    Yellow Jackets Fall to No. 1 Huskies, 82-71

    STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Maya Moore had 20 points and 14 rebounds to help top-ranked Connecticut pull away from Georgia Tech on Sunday and come away with a 82-71 season-opening win.

    It was the 12th double-double of the sophomore's career and the 37th time she's reached double figures in her 39 games.

    Maryland Women's Basketball Bounces Back, Defeats Delaware State, 73-46

    COLLEGE PARK. Md. (AP) -COLLEGE PARK. Md. -Marah Strickland scored 14 points and No. 3 Maryland rebounded from a stunning opening-game loss to beat Delaware State 73-46 on Sunday.

    "We played well in spurts. The disappointing thing is that we lost a lot of effort and intensity in the second half," said Frese. "There are areas where we need to improve and we don't have a lot of time to fix and correct."

    Green Bay Last Second Score Beats Hurricanes

    CORAL GABLES - The University of Miami women's basketball team (1-1) could not overcome a messy first half and fell to the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix (2-0), 63-61 at the BankUnited Center, Sunday afternoon.

    The Hurricanes dug themselves a hole they were never full able to recover from, as they turned the ball over 20 times in the first half, matching their point total. Miami had 12 turnovers before they hit their first field goal and trailed Green Bay 13-0 after eight minutes of play. At the half, UM trailed 33-20.

    UNC Tops VCU, 77-65

    CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell wasn't surprised when her team got off to a slow start. She was pleased that her players recovered and found their rhythm.

    Rashanda McCants scored 15 points to help No. 6 North Carolina beat Virginia Commonwealth 77-65 on Sunday in the second round of the Women's Preseason National Invitation Tournament.

    NC State Women's Hoops Wins Wolfpack Invitational

    RALEIGH, N.C. – Tournament MVP Shayla Fields scored a career-best 33 points to lead host NC State to a 62-55 victory over Charlotte in the title game of the Wolfpack Invitational played Sunday afternoon at Kay Yow Court at Reynolds Coliseum.

    The senior from Salisbury, N.C., took over in the second half by scoring 20 of the Wolfpack’s 30 points after halftime, including 10 of the final 15 over the last 5:34 of the game.
