Deacons Fall 72-61 to Georgetown in WNIT

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - 2008-09 was a special season for the Wake Forest women's basketball team. The Demon Deacons posted the second best record in program history, finishing 19-12 and making only the third appearance in postseason appearance since 1982. Wake Forest ended the season on their home court at the Joel Coliseum, falling 72-61 to Georgetown in the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

Wake Forest senior co-captains Alex Tchangoue and Corinne Groves led the Demon Deacons in scoring and rebounding. Tchangoue put up 15 points and seven caroms while Groves had 23 points and nine rebounds.

Georgetown's (19-13) Monica McNutt also netted the game-high scoring mark of 23 and Jaleesa Butler led the field with 10 rebounds.

Wake Forest held its largest lead at the 9:11 mark in the first half, pulling ahead by nine points. Georgetown chased the Deacons through the final minutes the knotted the score at 34-all by halftime.

Trouble for the Deacons started in the second half. In the first half it seemed like the Deacons couldn't miss, shooting 42 percent from the floor. When the final 20 minutes began and the Deacons' shooting turned ice cold. The team was 1-for-5 to start the half and Georgetown went on a 12-3 run.
