Williams Leads No. 5 Duke Past No. 19 FSU 61-50
DURHAM, N.C. - Elizabeth Williams had 20 points and 13 rebounds to help No. 5 Duke beat No. 19 Florida State 61-50 on Friday night.
Chloe Wells added 15 points for the Blue Devils (25-1, 15-0 ACC), who won their 37th consecutive home game against ACC competition.
Duke trailed 24-20 early in the second half but seized control with a 26-4 run over the next 9 minutes.
Wells hit a jumper from the free throw line to give the Blue Devils a 28-26 lead with 15:36 remaining, and they never trailed again.
No. 16 Tar Heels Roll Past Hokies, 72-50
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Tierra Ruffin-Pratt scored 17 points and No. 16 North Carolina led from start to finish in a 72-50 win over Virginia Tech Friday night at Cassell Coliseum. Carolina outscored the Hokies 33-11 in the first 15 minutes of the game and never led by less than 14 the rest of the way.
Xylina McDaniel added 13 points and Krista Gross just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.
UNC (24-4, 12-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) used the deep ball to great effect in the first 20 minutes, making 7 of 13 three-point attempts, including two each from Gross, McDaniel and Latifah Coleman.
Waltiea Rolle, who had a stat-stuffing night of nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks, made a layup right before the halftime buzzer to give the Tar Heels a 40-24 lead into the locker room.
Ruffin-Pratt went coast-to-coast on a steal and score right after halftime and Rolle scored on a jumper to make the lead 20 just 90 seconds after the break.
