Feb. 11, 2011
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jasmine Thomas scored 17 points, Krystal Thomas had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 5 Duke routed Wake Forest 82-39 on Friday night.
Allison Vernerey added 12 points for the Blue Devils (22-2, 8-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Duke never trailed, held a 52-31 rebounding advantage and outscored the Demon Deacons 46-14 in the paint in beating them for the 34th straight time.
Wake Forest (12-14, 3-7) scored just 13 points during the final 17 1/2 minutes and was held to a season-low point total. It lost for the seventh time in 10 outings and hasn't beaten Duke since the 1993 ACC tournament.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It’s not how you start. It’s how you finish. No. 15 Florida State’s Alexa Deluzio scored just five points while picking up two fouls in the first half of Friday’s home game against Georgia Tech but exploded in the second period. The redshirt sophomore guard scored 15 of her total 20 points in the second half and the Seminoles (20-2, 8-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) earned a 73-60 win over the Yellow Jackets.
FSU has now won at least 20 games in three consecutive seasons.
In front of the season’s largest home crowd, Deluzio made seven of her 13 shots from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. She also added five rebounds and four assists despite – like her teammates -- hitting the floor on multiple occasions.
Senior point guard Courtney Ward poured in 15 points to go along with her nine rebounds and five assists against Georgia Tech (18-8, 6-4).
Junior forward Cierra Bravard also had 15 points and freshman forward Natasha Howard added 11 of her own. Senior guard Christian Hunnicutt had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.
