Georgia Tech Upsets No. 2 North Carolina, 66-62
Alex Montgomery had 17 points and 10 rebounds in Georgia Tech's 66-62 upset Thursday night of No. 2 North Carolina, giving the Tar Heels consecutive losses for the first time since their final two games of the 2003-04 season.

Coming off an embarrassing 88-58 home loss Monday to No. 1 Connecticut, North Carolina blew a 15-point lead with 17:18 remaining.

Montgomery's 3-pointer with 3:37 left made it 60-57. North Carolina (17-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) entered with a 147-14 record since the end of 2003-04, when it closed with a loss to Duke in the ACC tournament and another to Middle Tennessee in the NCAAs.

Georgia Tech (14-4, 2-2) got 14 points from Jacqua Williams and 12 from Iasia Hemingway.

Hurricanes Notch First ACC Win Over NC State, 72-60
The University of Miami women's basketball team improved to 11-8, 1-4 with a 72-60 win over the NC State Wolfpack (8-11, 0-4). The BankUnited Center was the site of the Hurricanes first Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the season and the first ever win over NC State.

Freshman Shenise Johnson started the game 4-4 from the field on way to her fourth double-double of the season. The two-time ACC Rookie of the Week scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds.

Johnson wasn't the only one crashing the boards, senior Latoya Drake pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds of her own. The Baxley, Ga. native fell just shy of recording her first-career double-double as she scored nine points on the night.

For the fifth time this season and the fourth time in her last six games, freshman Riquna Williams led the Hurricanes in scoring. For the night the Pahokee, Fla. product scored 18 points in her fourth career start.
