    Debbie Ryan
Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan has led her Cavalier programs to postseason play in 25 of her 31 years, including an ACC-record 20 straight appearances from 1984 to 2003. Ryan directed the Cavs to a 24-10 overall record and a 10-4 mark in ACC play in 2008. Ryan has recorded 20 or more wins in a season 21 times and 30 or more twice en route to 22 NCAA Tournament appearance.

Ryan opened a new era of Virginia basketball as the men and women Hoos tallied a pair of wins their first night in the new state-of-the-art John Paul Jones Arena on Nov. 12, 2007. Ryan was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in June 2008. She picked up her 600th career victory with a 98-52 win over James Madison on Dec. 29, 2004, becoming just the seventh coach in NCAA women's basketball history to reach 600 wins at the same school. In 2000, Ryan was named ACC Coach of the Year for the seventh time, an ACC women's basketball record. The 2000 team also won the regular-season ACC title, marking the 11th time the Cavaliers have finished first under Ryan.

Averaging nearly 22 wins a season, Ryan ranks among the NCAA Division I coaching leaders in all-time victories (675) and winning percentage (.700). Ryan has led her teams to three Final Fours, and her 1991 team played in the NCAA championship game. Ryan was named the Naismith Coach of the Year in 1991 and has also been honored by the Virginia Women's Forum and the Virginia General Assembly.

Ryan has written three books: Virginia Defense, Virginia Summer Development Program and Women's Basketball Drills-Conditioning. In her first taste of international competition as head coach of USA Basketball, Ryan led the women's basketball team to a silver medal performance at the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic in August, 2004.

Ryan played collegiate basketball at Ursinus College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1975 ... She received her master's degree from Virginia while working as an assistant basketball and field hockey coach.

Virginia returns nine letterwinners and four starters from last year's squad that finished with a 24-10 overall record and 10-4 mark in the ACC.

Headlining the returnees is All-America Honorable Mention and All-ACC selection Monica Wright. Wright emerged as one of the most dynamic guards in the nation during her sophomore campaign and returns as the team's leading scorer (17.6 ppg). A member of the ACC's All-Defensive team, Wright also led the team in steals per game (2.4 pg) and blocks (19).

Also returning for the Cavs are Lyndra Littles (All-ACC 3rd team) and Aisha Mohammed (All-ACC Honorable Mention). Littles finished second in scoring (16.8 ppg), while Mohammed was the team's top rebounder (9.2 pg).

Virginia's fourth returning starter was to be guard Paulisha Kellum before she suffered a season-ending injury in preseason. Now reserve guard Britnee Millner will be called upon to fill the point guard position that opened up with four-year starter Sharnee Zoll's graduation.

Virginia's depth is evident as it also returns reserves Jayna Hartig, Kelly Hartig, Kristen London, and Enonge Stovall. The elder Hartig sister, Jayna, missed last season with an injury but looks to return at full strength, while younger sister Kelly was the lone first-year player in 2007-08 and consistently contributed solid minutes.

Joining the Cavaliers in 2008-09 will be four newcomers in Ariana Moorer, Chelsea Shine and Britny and Whitny Edwards.
