    Head Coach
    Sue Semrau
Sue Semrau has led Florida State to postseason play in each of the last six seasons, making the school’s first Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2006-07. Semrau, who owns a 179-152 career record and enters her 12th year with the Noles, has led the program to 20-plus win seasons three consecutive times from 2004 to 2007, the first time Florida State has ever won 20 or more games in three-straight seasons. Prior to the Seminoles’ appearances in the WNIT, Semrau led her 2001 Florida State team to a third-place finish in the ACC and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1991, en route to earning ACC Coach of the Year accolades. Semrau was named the ACC Coach of the Year again in 2005 after leading Florida State to a 24-8 record and its first 20-win season since 1991. In 11 seasons, Semrau has coached 13 All-ACC players, 34 ACC Honor Roll recipients and 20 Academic All-ACC players.

Before coming to Florida State, Semrau served three years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Wisconsin under former Badger head coach Jane Albright (1993-97). She also coached with Albright at Northern Illinois from 1990-93. Semrau served as head coach and assistant athletic director at Occidental College in Los Angeles for four years (1987-90). At Occidental, Semrau also coached soccer for two seasons and was responsible for fundraising and promotions at the Division III institution. She was also a member of the NCAA regional selection committee and chaired the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for women’s basketball.

Semrau played basketball at the University of California at San Diego, where she ranks 13th in all-time scoring and fourth in all-time assists. Semrau graduated from UC-San Diego in 1985 and earned her master’s in athletic administration from Southern California in 1988.

    Scouting the Seminoles

    Tanae Davis-Cain
Florida State is coming off its fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles advanced to the second round, where they lost to Oklahoma State in overtime.

The 2008-09 squad will be one of FSU’s most experienced as it brings back 85 percent (5,718-of-6,725) of the minutes played from 2007-08. In addition, 83 percent (1,897-of-2,283) of scoring and 89 percent (1,162-of-1,302) of rebounding returns.

Bolstering Florida State’s roster this year is the eighth-ranked recruiting class in the country. All four incoming freshman have earned All-America honors, with center Cierra Bravard ranked as the No. 7 player in the country and wing Chasity Clayton rated 32nd in the nation.

The Seminoles look forward to a pair of milestone games this season. The third contest (Nov. 20, against the College of Charleston) will mark the 1,000th game in school history. FSU also needs just four wins to record the 500th victory in the program’s 35 seasons.

    Mara Freshour
Seniors Tanae Davis-Cain and Mara Freshour are both poised to break the school’s career record of 134 three-pointers. All-ACC selection Davis-Cain comes into the year with 121 while Freshour is four back of her after setting the FSU single-season record of 66 in 2007-08. Both players are also on track to reach 1,000 points for their career.

Two players were ranked in the top 25 of the NCAA statistical rankings. Mara Freshour, the ACC leader with a three-point percentage of 42.9 percent, was ranked 14th in the nation in that category. Forward Jacinta Monroe’s 2.36 blocked shots per game rated her 23rd in the country and second in the league.
