Nov. 25, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia's Jedd Moore has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Wrestler of the Week for his performance in two dual matches last Sunday.
The 157-pound freshman from Mount Vernon, Ohio, scored a 9-4 decision over nationally second-ranked Dan Vallimont of Penn State in the 24th-ranked Cavaliers' narrow 19-15 loss to the 14th-ranked Nittany Lions, then posted a 16-5 major decision win over American International's Mylon Spolar to help Virginia score a 52-0 victory. The latter point total was Virginia's third-highest ever for a dual meet.
Vallimont is the highest ranked contender that a Virginia wrestler has beaten during head coach Steve Garland's three seasons at the helm of the program. Moore improved to 12-3 for the season with his two wins on Sunday.
