Maryland Announces 2000-2001 Wrestling Schedule

College Park, Md. - The 2000-2001 Maryland wrestling schedule is highlighted by seven home dual meets as released today by head coach John McHugh. The Terps will host local rivals Navy and George Mason in January before heading south in February to square off against ACC powerhouses Virginia and North Carolina. The Terps will also compete against local teams at the Congressional Cup at American University on February 3. The ACC tournament will be held in Chapel Hill on March 3.
Maryland posted a 7-4 overall dual record last season with wins against non-conference opponents Coppin State, American, Howard and Old Dominion. The Terps also defeated ACC rivals NC State and Duke. Leading the Terps will be two-time ACC champ junior Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md.) at 133 and junior Joe Guzzio (Greensboro, N.C.) at 125 who sat out last season as a redshirt. Looking to make a second trip to the NCAA tournament will be juniors Mark Mansueto at 141 (West Chester, Pa.), Rob Booth at 157 (Atco, N.J.) and Josh Weidman at 165 (Hershey, Pa.). Coach McHugh is entering his 23rd season at the helm of the Maryland wrestling program with a 233-126-8 overall record.
All home dual meets will be held in the Ritchie Coliseum in College Park and admission is free.
