T.J. Jaworsky Begins Quest For Sydney on Thursday
June 21, 2000 T.J. Jaworsky, a three-time NCAA wrestling champion during his brilliant career at the University of North Carolina, will compete for a spot on the United States Olympic Wrestling Team this week at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Amateur wrestling's premier event takes place Thursday through Saturday at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Jaworsky, an assistant coach for the Tar Heels for the past five seasons, wrestled for UNC from 1992-95. He compiled a 110-5 career record, with a school-best 50 wins by fall. His .957 career winning percentage is first all-time at Carolina and his 38-0 record in 1994-95 is tied for the best single-season winning percentage in Carolina history.
Competing at 138.75 pounds in Dallas, Jaworsky placed second at the 2000 U.S. Nationals and looks to battle three-time U.S. champion Cary Kolat of Morgantown, W. Va., for the top spot this weekend.
