Former Duke Wrestling Coach Harvey Earns Lifetime Membership To NWCA
April 30, 2001 DURHAM, N.C. - Former Duke wrestling coach Bill Harvey has received an Honorary membership to the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The honor entitles Harvey to a lifetime membership in the NWCA. To be eligible for the award an individual must have worked 25 years in the coaching profession, served on either the board of directors on the NWCA or the NCAA Rules Committee and be voted in by two-thirds of the board of directors currently at the NWCA. "I feel honored to have this achievement," said Harvey. "Twenty-five years is quite a criteria to get an award and that makes it very special."
Harvey served as the Duke wrestling coach from 1967-97. In his tenure he
compiled a 220-195-4 record and produced 16 ACC champions. Harvey also
coached Duke's only Olympic wrestler Bert Govig.
